Blanke Permat Explained, How to Install The Strongest Tile Floor uncoupling Underlayment Permat is the only tile underlayment that adds strength to your floor, structural rigidity. Uncoupling membranes are the best underlayment for a tile floor, in my opinion, that being said none of them other than Permat, have any structural value. The floor has to meet all deflection standards before the uncoupling membrane is installed. This is usually not a problem when installing a porcelain tile. Uncoupling membrane are great and will help your floor last for many years without problems, but there are cases when something more is needed, and when the typical membrane has limitations that exclude it from being used, Permat by Blanke will probably be the underlayment that will meet and exceed all the limitations that other underlayments can't meet. Permat has no limitation of tile size, install any mosaic or large format tile you like, other uncoupling membranes will usually limit the tile size to no less than 2'x2' , If you intend to install a natural stone tile on your floor, a second layer of plywood must be installed with any other tile underlayment, be it an uncoupling membrane or cement board. Permat is the only underlayment that allows the installation of natural stone tiles on a single layer of plywood subfloor.
