State-wise Hindu & Muslim Population (1991–2011)
Description
This video presents a state-wise analysis of how Hindu and Muslim population percentages have changed between the 1991 and 2011 Indian Census. The data shown is entirely sourced from the official Census of India and is meant purely for educational and awareness purposes.
We do not intend to target, offend, or promote bias toward any community, group, or individual. This content is neutral, data-driven, and respects the pluralistic fabric of our nation.
Why is the Hindu percentage decreasing in many states?
The primary reason lies in differing population growth rates. While Hindus still have the largest absolute population, fertility rates among Hindus have declined faster due to better access to education, urbanization, and family planning. Meanwhile, Muslim fertility rates, though also declining, remained higher on average during this period, leading to a relative increase in share — a common demographic trend in many parts of the world
"It is not due to conversions or migrations as popularly misunderstood".
