Azerbaijan Airlines AZAL Flight Report || Istanbul IST to Baku GYD || Economy Class B767-300ER ✈

Welcome to my brand new Flight Report onboard Azerbaijan Airlines AZAL from Istanbul to Baku Intl Airport. AZAL offers very good product especially in this highly competitive route. I have pleasantly surprised in this sense.

Some basic info about the flight:

Equipment: Boeing B767-300ER
Genre: Complete In-Flight Flying Experience
Flight Number: J2076
Duration: 2 hours and 55 minutes
Date: 18th September 2015

Check in, punctuality and the equipment:
*Online check in was smooth. The flight was half empty so I could choose seat 12A
*The flight scheduled to depart at 12:20 p.m. local time. This period used to be pretty busy at IST airport but we departed on time. Even 2 minutes earlier. We landed on time and I had my luggage shortly.
*The flight was operated by AZAL’s 5 years old B767-300ER. The aircraft was showing its age but perfectly maintained. Seat was comfortable and legroom was ok for 2.5 hours flight. Seat next to me was empty which gave me more comfort. Cleanliness of lavatory was fine too. Crew distributed hot towels and headsets before take off.

Food and Service:
*Complimentary food and drinks served on board. Drink service started shortly after take off. They offered different soft drinks, biscuits and crackers. Lunch service followed soon. They did not have menu's so FA asked me before service "meat or chicken", I answered meat
Lunch consisted of buckwheat and meat balls with tomato sauce, fresh vegetable salad, cheese and a piece of cake. Soft and alcoholic beverages also served, I opted for coke. During lunch they also served tea with lemon. Usually Azerbaijani people prefer to have their dessert with tea. So very nice touch by AZAL!

Communication Issues:
*Honestly I would not say the crew members were the most friendly ever. They seldomly smile and do not make so much efforts to satisfy passengers. In the middle of the flight I asked FA for blanket. Russian speaking female stewardess reluctantly replied "we don't have any". Maybe others passenger have taken them already. But she supposed to say something else instead of just "No". Especially male FAs are unfriendly.

Inflight Entertainment System IFE:
IFE was well below my expectations and general standards. I had a seat-back screen but it did not entertain me that much. IFE contained pretty old movies and screen sensitivity was a bit annoying. So IFE did not satisfy me at all. Seat pocket items were safety card and Azerbaijan Airlines Inflight Magazine. The magazine mostly contained articles about BAKU2015 first European games which is not so entertaining for those who do not have any interest in sports just like me.
Generally, my flight experience with AZAL was good. I would recommend AZAL and fly with them again without hesitation.
