Aachen - Liberation in October 1944 (in color and HD)

Jack Lieb, war cameraman, comments scenes during the battle of Aachen in 1944.

The battle of Aachen was one of the largest urban battles fought by the United State's forces in the Second World War. The Plan of the Allied forces was to capture the city center quickly, as they hoped that it was only held by a small garrison.
Being the historic capital of Charlemagne and the first city captured by the Allied forces, the lost of Aachen was of high psychological value. The battle of Aachen caused a lot of casualties on both sides. The last German forces surrendered on 21 October.
