FLORIDA’S ANTIQUE VINTAGE COMEBACK! I AUCTION & MALL

Family and business lure me back to St. Petersburg as they slowly reopen their antique and vintage businesses! We stop first to pick up an auction win, and get to preview and bid on an Egyptian revival mirror, Hot Wheels cases and a wild 1960s lamp set.

Hoping to win the lamps, I head quickly before closing to Vintage Modern St. Pete, a bastion of 20th century modernism, one of my favorite vintage stores in the country! I show the front half of VinMod, and show a bit of my space as I contemplate the changes it needs as I see it for the first time since the lockdown. (The back half is just as good, coming Sun. 8 pm Eastern!)

VinMod manages to show art, furniture and collectibles together, more accessible to me as a collector than the crisp but sparse gallery displays that typify modernist meccas. We still see designer furniture by Raymond Loewy, Dyrlund of Denmark and Lane Brutalist Modern, but find there’s also large amounts of vintage fashion, Floridiana and beach decor, designer mid-century accessories, even geometric indian clothing and baskets from the era of cross country car travel.

Sascha Brastoff, the Higgins and Wayne Husted are a few designer names we drop in this video. A robot fan and a lava lamp are some of the fun and fanciful things made in 20th century America.
