China Slams Japan Over Military Expansion and Arms Export Rule Changes

China has strongly criticized Japan over its recent defence and foreign policy decisions, accusing Tokyo of engaging in what it describes as “reckless militarization” following the easing of long-standing arms export restrictions.

Beijing expressed concern over Japan’s moves to enter the international weapons market, warning that such actions could heighten regional instability.

Tensions were further heightened after Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida sent a ritual offering to a controversial war shrine, a gesture that has historically drawn criticism from neighboring countries, including China.

In response, China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, is expected to begin a three-country visit to Southeast Asia this week as Beijing seeks to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties in the region.

The developments reflect rising geopolitical friction in the Asia-Pacific, alongside efforts by China to expand its influence through regional engagement.
