The Ultimate Offroad Test: 37s vs 40s
Finally, the first full video of the 40 inch Maxxis Trepador tyres on our Y61 Nissan Patrol is released. Plenty more to come, so stay tuned!! This video demonstrates the difference between the 37s and 40s, on the same vehicle, with the same driver, on the same trail, except that the 40s had to do it in the rain and wet terrain, adding to the challenge. The comparison is not between the tyres per se, but rather between the 2 sizes and the way they were run offroad on this vehicle. The KM2's were never run below 12 psi because no beadlocks and even then, they sometimes let air out. In this video they were run at 14 psi. The Treps ran at 5 psi because of beadlocks, but that was too low for the heavy Patrol. On the second trip (next video to come), they ran 10 psi and felt much better in terms of control.
You can especially see their performance in the obstacle of track #4 (14:23) where, after numerous attempts with 37s, we finally had to winch up, but the 40s just crawled it. FORGET ABOUT EVEN APPROACHING THAT OBSTACLE IN 33s!
For those that say "I can go anywhere on 33s", let us tell you - "You CAN'T!" Yes, you can follow, but around the chicken track bypasses, that's it! We have mud tyres in 31s, 33s, 35s, 37s and now 40s, and in no way are 31s like 33s, nor the 33s are like the 35s, etc etc. BTW, this is not directed at those who enjoy their offroad fun in 31s and 33s, but at those that have nothing better to do than display their envy out in the open. That's not good sport! We wheel with anyone who loves to wheel and appreciate everyone's level of build.
Below are the time stamps for each obstacle, for easier navigation through the video 👇👇👇:
TRACK #6 (climb)
00:07 37inch BF Goodrich KM2
03:28 40inch Maxxis Trepador
05:10 TRACK #6 descent in 37in BFG KM2
07:13 TRACK #9 descent in 40in Treps (wanted to do something more challenging instead of track #6)
TRACK #4
10:40 37s KM2's
14:23 40s Treps
Enjoy watching this comparison. Feel free to comment and share.
