Every year, we save our own onion seed… and every year, the seed gives us back our crop.

In winter, we plant the small leftover onions from the previous harvest. Some become delicious spring onions, while others are left in the ground to flower and produce seed. By summer, those flowers dry into beautiful seed heads — carrying the genetics of onions that have already adapted to our soil, climate, and growing conditions.

This is true self sufficiency.
The seed is ours. The onion is ours. And the next crop is ours too.

At Aanandaa, we also share these open-pollinated local heirloom onion seeds through our seed bank and seed shop. The seed itself becomes a source of livelihood — not just the crop.

Farmers should not be dependent on buying hybrid seeds from companies every season. When we save our own heirloom, open-pollinated seeds, we preserve biodiversity, local resilience, and freedom.

A seed saved is knowledge saved.
A seed saved is independence saved.
