Prehistoric Art and their Meanings

Prehistoric art and their meanings are different across the world. Even Neanderthals made art. Art means also means different things to different people. Ancient humans were no different and so it is difficult to determine with certainty. They were not simple cavemen; in fact, they were highly intelligent humans able to understand the complexities of human existence in this world. The paintings depict bulls and horses which not only represent the literal animals, but also women and men respectively. Human hands are all over the wall and they feature both adults and children leaving their mark. Prehistoric life was fraught with dangers and so this could have been a way to exist eternally with what could be a sacred place. More to the point, we can reasonably guess with historical knowledge on what these ancient humans meant to impart on to the world because their prehistoric art is well preserved. In France, there is a place called Lascaux cave and it is a treasure trove of prehistoric art. There are so many cave paintings of different subjects and they perhaps may pertain to religion or rituals. These were by no means just simple decorations because there is no evidence that people even lived in Lascaux, rather they came there exclusively for rituals. The first musical instruments, flutes, may have added to the magic during rituals and there is evidence that they danced in these caves too. The artwork is enormous and would have required the use of scaffolding as many places are just too hard to reach by the average hunter gatherer. Additionally, some of the figures are estimated to have taken over 400 hours to complete. This shows an incredible amount of effort put in by our ancient ancestors to create prehistoric art. The oldest art is the world is incredible especially when we consider that all of these artists were full time hunter gatherers before they were artists and that this was also a massive effort undertaken by the entire tribe as the artists would have needed people to cook for them, bring them food, and for people to light the dark cave as they worked due to the art being far away from sunlight. The history of the world is so much richer due to these pioneers.
