Fiji's meth crisis sparks 'alarming' surge in HIV and AIDS | 1News' Barbara Dreaver
Fiji has asked the United Nations for help with an HIV/AIDS epidemic which has been fuelled by the country's spiralling methamphetamine trade.
Last year the island nation had 82 HIV/AIDS deaths and there were 415 new cases. This compares to 97 new cases in New Zealand, with a vastly larger population.
The number of new cases in Fiji are doubling every year, and it had the second-highest increase behind the Philippines in the Asia and Pacific regions.
In the second of a four-part investigation, 1News' Pacific Correspondent Barbara Dreaver unveils the factors accelerating Fiji's alarming HIV rates.
