World War 1 (1914-1918)

World War 1 (1914-1918) was a global conflict primarily involving Europe, sparked by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. It pitted the Allies (including Britain, France, and Russia) against the Central Powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire). Characterized by trench warfare, devastating battles, and new military technologies, the war led to immense casualties. It ended with the Treaty of Versailles in 1919, imposing harsh penalties on Germany and reshaping global geopolitics, ultimately setting the stage for World War 2.
