Gander the dog saved Canadian soldiers in WWII 🇨🇦 #MemorialDay #WW2 #History

Gander, a Newfoundland serving with the Royal Rifles of Canada during World War II, sacrificed his life during the Battle of Hong Kong after grabbing an enemy grenade and carrying it away from nearby Canadian soldiers.

For his actions, Gander was posthumously awarded the PDSA Dickin Medal — considered the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross.

Today on Memorial Day, we also remember the sacrifices made alongside the United States by Allied nations during WWII. 🇺🇸🇨🇦
