Japanese Underwater Shots - How Effective were they? - Suichudan

The Japanese prior to the Second World War accidentally stumbled across the capabilities of underwater shots. Firing tests against battleships showed that near misses under some circumstances travelled below the water-line and were still powerful enough to struck the hull, which was not protected against shell-fire underwater, thus allowing for hits directly into the vital parts of the ship.
