Jerry Butler - I Stand Accused (1964)

The Ice Man continued this balladeer-type singing well into 1964 with the hit single "I Stand Accused" released July 1964. But starting in late 1963, Vee-Jay Records took notice in an upcoming singer by the name of Betty Everett, who had a top 50 song, "You're No Good". Vee-Jay's A&R musical director Calvin Carter first saw her in New York and thought she would be a good match for Jerry Butler's duets. The pair made many records together during 1964 and in between those recording sessions, Everett recorded on her own ("The Shoop Shoop Song", Jan. 1964; "I Can't Hear You", June 1964). "I Stand Accused reached #61 on the Pop Chart but did not make the R&B Chart.
