Polish Tango: Adam Aston & Jerzy Gert Orch. - Spójrz (Look) 1937

Spójrz (Spadła w dół gwiazda ma) [Look / My star has fallen down] Tango (Petersburski – Sewer) Orkiestra pod dyr. Jerzego Gerta [Orchestra dir. by Jerzy Gert] Refren: Adam Aston, Odeon 1937 (Polish)

NOTE: Here is Adam Aston's recording on Odeon, not as numerous as his recordings for Syrena-Electro. However, an advantage of these recordings is the accompaniment of the excellent orchestra of Jerzy Gert, particularly thrilling in the Argentine tangos. Until September 1939 Jerzy Gert was music director of the Warsaw branch of the Odeon Records. He survived the war and after the war conducted the dance orchestra of the Kraków radio.

This tango written by the excellent Polish composer Jerzy Petersburski (let us remind you - the author of the world-famous hit "O Donna Clara"), tells about the meeting of a pair of lovers looking at night at the Italian sky and its millions of stars. Therefore, this slideshow presents photographs of the 1929 Italian trip through Venice, Florence to Capri taken by the distinguished Polish photographer Zofia Chomętowska. She was an amateur photographer, belonged to the Polish nobility and enjoyed all the pleasures of belonging to this social stratum, including international travel. Her legacy showing the cities and people of pre-war Poland is fascinating and rich. Also very impressive are Chomętowska's photographs of the ruined Warsaw after the 2nd World War.
