Halloween Vocabulary Flashcards with Sentences from Gogo Lessons
Learn Halloween vocabulary with gogo flashcards, remember new words and their use in sentences in English.
1. Trick-or-treating
When the door opened the kids all shouted “Trick or treat!”.
2. Costume “to wear a costume” “dress up as ~” or “go as ~”
“Hi Mary, what kind of costume will you wear for Halloween?”
“I’m not sure. I may go as a nurse, but I was also thinking of dressing up as a kitten.”
3. Decorations
To put up decorations for Halloween party.
4. Scary
I’m scared of spiders.
5. Afraid
I’m afraid of snakes.
6. Frightened
The movie wasn’t really scary, but some of the children were frightened because there were loud noises.
7. Spooky
I don’t like walking through the cemetery after dark. I know nothing will happen, but it just feels too quiet and spooky.
8. Creepy
That man in the green shirt has been staring at that woman for about 25 minutes. He seems pretty creepy.
9. Freaky
It’s still a bit freaky for me to drive on the road where I had the accident.
Helen is a real pizza freak. She can eat two entire pizzas by herself!
10. Eerie
I was just about to call my cousin, who I hadn’t talked to in a year. But right when I picked up the phone to call him, my phone rang—it was my cousin! That was pretty eerie.
11. Silly
Many people say that clowns are supposed to be fun and silly, but I think they’re just creepy or even scary.
12. Jack-o’-lanterns
Jack-o’-lantern’s is a pumpkin that has a face carved into it with a candle inside.
13. Haunted houses
If something is haunted, it means that it has ghosts or spirits living in it.
14. Scarecrows
A scarecrow is used by farmers to scare crows away from their fields.
15. Black cats
Some people think black cats bring bad luck.
16. Spiders
Many people are scared of spiders.
17. Candy
When kids go trick-or-treating, they usually receive a lot of candy.
18. Graveyard
Graveyard is full of ghosts and spirits of dead people.
19. Tombstones
You’ll often see the letters “R.I.P.” on a tombstone, which stand for “Rest In Peace.”
20. Monster
A monster is any creature or person that is scary, unnatural or gigantic.
21. Ghost / Spirit
when you die, your ghost or spirit stays on Earth.
22. Witch
A witch is a woman with magical powers.
23. Wizard
A wizard is a man with magical powers.
24. Zombie
A zombie is a dead body that somehow comes alive.
25. Mummy
A Halloween mummies are usually wrapped in white cloth.
26. Vampire
A vampire is a human that drinks blood and never dies.
27. Skeleton
A skeleton is a collection of all the bones in a body. Many people think skeletons and bones are creepy or scary.
28. Werewolf
A werewolf is a person who is a human most of the time, but when there’s a full moon, he or she transforms into a wolf.
29. Death / The Grim Reaper
The Grim Reaper collects dead people!
30. Devil / Demon
Demons are basically the opposite of angels. They are evil creatures that live in Hell, and sometimes they torture people’s spirits after the people die.
