The Tragedy of Aeroflot Flight 593: A Detailed Reconstruction in Turboprop Flight Simulator
On March 23, 1994, one of the most mysterious and tragic accidents in civil aviation history occurred over the Kuznetsk Alatau mountain range. Aeroflot Flight 593, an Airbus A310 en route from Moscow to Hong Kong, disappeared from radar, leaving the world in shock.
In this video, I use Turboprop Flight Simulator (TFS) to recreate the sequence of events that led to this disaster, incorporating the Turbodrop physics to demonstrate the aircraft's behavior during its final moments.
The Story Behind the Flight:
The investigation revealed a chilling series of events. The relief captain had brought his two children into the cockpit. While his daughter sat in the pilot's seat, she didn't interfere with the controls. However, when his son took the wheel, he applied enough force to partially disconnect the A310's autopilot.
Unbeknownst to the crew, the plane began a steep right bank. By the time the pilots noticed the bank angle had exceeded 45 degrees, the aircraft was already entering a high-speed dive. Despite their desperate heroic efforts to pull the plane up, the G-forces and the low altitude made recovery impossible.
