Why Does the Government Want to Suspend the Northern Ireland Protocol?

The brexit temperature has been increased at the Tory party conference this week as unelected brexit minister, David Frost, threatened to unilaterally suspend the parts of the protocol that the government don't like. But why would most Conservatives even want to dismantle the Northern Ireland Protocol if it doesn't harm their interests?
