About the Photographer
Laurence Salzmann says that The Yucatan peninsula always had a fascination Laurence Salzmann At age 17 on his first visit there he was impressed by the cenotes found there and became an aficiando of Horchata Yucateca. On his most visit to the Yucatan he photographed the deteriorating painted plaster walls of the Convent de San Bernardino de Siena in Valladolid. These photographs compliment recent works where in abstract forms he imagines other worldy creatures. Can the past speak to the present?
About the Writer
Tey Mariana Stiteler is the founder and director of the Museo de Ropa Etnica (MUREM) in Valladolid, Yucatan, Mexico. Founded in mid-2018, MUREM collects, conserves, and displays clothing from Mexico's indigenous, traditional. and contemporary ehnic groups. Formally from Greensburg, Pennsylvania, Tey is a USA/Mexican national who has been living in Valladolid for 14 years. She was a museum professional for more than a decade at Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, before moving to Mexico.
