Thousands of Iranians staged a protest during Iran’s national team match in Los Angeles

During the World Cup match between Iran and New Zealand (2–2), thousands of members of the Iranian diaspora gathered around the stadium in Los Angeles to protest against the authorities of the Islamic Republic.

Many fans carried pre-revolutionary Iranian flags featuring the Lion and Sun emblem and said they had come not for football, but to show support for the opposition to the regime. Los Angeles is considered the largest center of the Iranian diaspora outside Iran, with around 500,000 Iranians living in the area.
