Giving Voice: A Conversation with Plácido Domingo

On Thursday, April 14th, 2016, the legendary opera singer and humanitarian, Plácido Domingo, appeared before a packed house at Sanders Theater. The event was co-sponsored by Harvard’s Division of Arts and Humanities, the Office for the Arts and the Instituto Cervantes at Harvard. In a far-ranging conversation moderated by Anne Shreffler, James Edward Ditson Professor of Music, and Tamar Herzog, Monroe Guttman Professor of Latin American Affairs and Professor of History, Maestro Domingo discussed both his musical career and his dedication to and activism in relation to humanitarian causes. He was surprised by a performance of Zarzuela music, a personal favorite, by pianist Alex Beyer ’17 and mezzo-soprano Sofia Selowsky ’12. Finally, the avid sports fan was presented with a Harvard letter jacket embroidered with a Latin inscription which, translated, means: “He came. He saw. He gave voice.”

More information on both the event and Maestro Domingo can be found in these two articles, published in the Gazette:
