Why does no one understand chronic illness
If you have a friend living with a dynamic chronic illness, this one is for you. 🤍
Since there’s no official ‘social protocol’ for how to support someone with a long-term condition, people often overcompensate, panic, or act super awkward. Because my health changes day by day, my friends don’t always know what version of me they’re getting.
If you want to support a loved one with EDS or any chronic illness, here is your cheat sheet:
1. Keep inviting them, even if they have to cancel last minute.
2. Send no-response-needed texts just to let them know you’re thinking of them.
3. Offer specific help (like “Can I bring you iced coffee on Tuesday?”) rather than “Let me know if you need anything.”
We talk all about navigating relationships and social awkwardness with chronic illness on this week’s episode of A Flexible Life that comes out on Tuesday 5/26 anywhere you get your podcasts!
