Music for the Mind and Soul:
This unique concert series is both a flagship for our performance work in Indian Music, and also a beautiful musical experience which provides a refreshing window on the new generation of Indian musicians emerging on the World Music scene.
The series began twenty-six years ago in Liverpool, the Music City of England & the home of the Beatles, who greatly loved Indian music themselves. It began as a free concert, as an attempt to provide an opportunity for new and uninitiated audiences to hear Indian ragas & fine musicians regularly each month; it also features the provision of the ever popular Indian food, before the show begins at 1pm.
Over the past 26 years, the series has featured established stars & emerging musicians of note. It also regularly presents young British musicians in training. Musicians nationally & internationally aspire to feature in Music for the Mind & Soul series.
It is unique too, because since its inception in Liverpool, it has spread to the cities of Manchester (Bridgewater Hall) & London (at the Southbank Centre). In each city it has drawn a passionate and committed new audience that keeps coming back for more each successive month. At Milapfest we are determined to maintain the series’ friendly, welcoming, relaxed ambience, as if visiting an old friend in company of other friends for a magical interlude from the hurry & scurry of our daily lives.
Music for the Mind and Soul remains the only year round three city concert series, which continues to grow year after year. It has a committed audience today, who eagerly await their monthly opportunity to get away from the stresses and strains of their daily lives to relax, sit back and be whisked away to another altogether more serene dimension.
In recent years the Concert Series has travelled to the English Lakes in the Octagon Theatre at Bolton, building new audiences and friends; we are also hoping to welcome new venues to join us in spreading exciting music to newer audiences.
If you have never attended one of these concerts, come and experience it at your convenience; there is every chance you will become one of our regulars!
