N1 Headlight Disassembly and Repair – R32 GTR V-Spec II

In this video I’m disassembling my N1 headlight to repair the reflectors which have turned yellow. I have tried to document the process as much as possible and left extra bits in so that others watching this video would then hopefully feel comfortable enough to disassemble their own headlight. The task itself is not too difficult, but what makes it riskier is the fact that N1 headlights have become so expensive, and if you break something you can’t simply can’t replace that part. It’s extremely important to take your time if you’re doing this job, and I highly recommend that you try this on a wrecker headlight first.

I go through the step-by-step procedure to take apart the headlight, remove the reflectors, install the reflectors and then assemble the headlight back together. The reflectors were repaired by a company that used a vacuum metalising process to recoat them in an extremely shiny and factory looking coating. _Temperature and Time Info for Heating_
110 degrees Celsius for 15mins to remove the lens
110 degrees Celsius for 5mins to remove the butyl sealant on the housing and lens with a screwdriver (Repeat as necessary)
110 degrees Celsius for 10mins to install the lens (I tried 5mins and 7mins and felt it would have been better to just go straight to 10mins)

_Reflector Adjustment Info_
Low beam reflector (Looking from the back):
Left adjustment screw – Anti-clockwise = beam moves to the right. Clockwise = beam moves to the left.

Right adjustment screw – Anti-clockwise = beam moves up. Clockwise = beam moves down.

Fog light reflector:
Top adjustment screw – Anti-clockwise = beam moves down. Clockwise = beam moves up.

_Tools_
Straight Tip Lock Ring Plier (Expanding pliers)
Small, medium and large flathead screwdrivers
Small and medium Phillips’s head screwdrivers
Small 45-degree needle nose pliers
8mm socket and ¼” ratchet
Strong clamps with rubber sleeves on the end
Small plastic bags and a marker to store the variety of bits
Air or battery powered blower
Cotton gloves (I didn’t use these types of gloves but I believe they’re the right ones for touching the reflectors)
Microfiber cloths
Thermometer with a sensor wire (Optional)

eBay butyl sealant (Optional if you don’t want to buy the Nissan sealant. The eBay version is a bit glossier)
