Revell 1/500 Scale Into Darkness U.S.S. Enterprise Buildup Series Finale and Coming Next....
From TrekWorks
Welcome Modelers
This is the finale of the Revell 1/500 scale Into Darkness U.S.S. Enterprise build series.
Since the last video I finished painting on the aztec patterns on the engine nacelles and adding the markings and decals to finish it all up. Finally, the base was painted and the control switches were installed and the 9 volt power supply was connected.
The model turned out well and is a nice replica of the ship. The concerns about the thinly molded plastic are not an issue and it is very sturdy once it is fully assembled.
Going back to the aftermarket parts, I used the deluxe lighting kit which includes the rotating
bussard effects and pulsing impulse engines and the unique double flashing strobe lighting available from www.tenacontrols.com
It was a snap to wire up and install and has worked flawlessly.
I also used the aztec panel masking set available from Orbital_Drydock. I had no issues with using the masks such as paint peeling or adhesive residue left behind on the finish.
The masks are well designed and fit the shapes of the model perfectly. The tape transfer method allowed me to perform the masking very quickly with minimal effort.
I also used the polytranspar iridescent paint from Mckensie taxidermy supply.
They worked very well and they look superb on the model and give it a gorgeous shimmering effect just like what was seen on the original refit and the QMX replica of the 2009 Enterprise. The total cost of the build for the kit and the parts and paint came in at around $300 which is not bad when compared to the QMX replica which cost's about $9,000!
I really enjoyed this build and I can say I recommend this kit very highly. It builds out very well and is a very nice replica of the on screen ship from the recent movies.
