Episode 03 | The Shot x Andréa Toucinho – Why inclusion by design matters in payments
Description
In this episode of The Shot Season 8, Andréa Toucinho explores the actions market stakeholders are taking to make payments more inclusive and accessible.
The key message: inclusion should not be added as a workaround after a product is built. It should be designed from the start.
Andréa also explains why collaboration matters across the whole ecosystem, not only banks and regulators, and why freedom of choice, including access to cash, remains essential for true payment inclusion.
This episode is part of The Shot by NORBr, Season 8, dedicated to inclusion and accessibility in payments.
Full transcript:
In this video, I share some illustrations of the key actions adopted by different market stakeholders in the field of inclusion and accessibility.
First of all, there is a key point developed through different legislation related to accessibility.
It is the concept of inclusion by design.
Instead of developing alternatives for existing tools, the idea is to integrate inclusion at the beginning of a project.
This is a key point we observe in different EU countries.
Another key aspect in the way market stakeholders work on inclusion and accessibility is the development of a collaborative approach.
We see this in different EU countries.
The idea is that inclusion in payments is not a topic only related to banks or regulators.
It is a topic related to the whole ecosystem, so it is necessary to foster collaboration in this field.
Last but not least, there is a strong idea in the actions developed around payment inclusion: freedom of choice.
This idea is related to the fact that, instead of only encouraging electronic tools across different EU countries, it is necessary to guarantee cash as a strong payment tool.
Consumers should be able to choose the payment tool they want to use.
The idea is that every consumer should have access to the tool they want to use to make payments.
In the next video, I will share key recommendations to ensure a truly inclusive payment framework.
