How to "Pressure Treat" Wood at Home

Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without. These days, that sounds like a quaint little saying from a bygone era. But in reality, it is outlines a way of life from a bygone era.

Not that long ago, the levels of waste and use of 'disposable' stuff we're creating and using up today, would have been unimaginable. I think I may be part of the last generation of people who had a living family member who survived and remembered the great depression, and the scarcity related to World War II. Unfortunately, these days, it seems to take a global disruption like the depression, to get us to think about maybe not wasting quite as much. Here we are in the midst of just such a disruption with this pandemic and, my hope, is that people are beginning to look for information and ways to use up, wear out, make do, or do without.

In that vein, this video shows my attempts to make my fence posts last longer. You can use this technique for lumber as well. I've seen a guy treat the boards for his cabin roof with this method to make them shed water, and last longer. Not only do you get 'pressure treated' lumber or fence posts out of this, but you get to enjoy a good bonfire.
