Omicron Cases Escalate In Mumbai With 15,166 Fresh Cases, 3 Deaths in the Last 34 hours

The Financial Capital faces a sudden surge in the fresh Omicron cases which stands at 15,166 and 3 deaths have been reported over the past 34 hours. Reportedly, this outbreak has trapped frontline workers nearly, 160 resident doctors have succumbed to infection.

By imposing a night curfew from 9pm to 6am which will continue till January 15 in the state, Maharashtra Health Minister, Rajesh Tope has said "Government will not think about lockdown but the implementation of the restrictions is mandatory now". Moreover, Maharashtra Education Minister stated "We have decided to shut schools till February 15, exams will be conducted online and this decision has been taken with the consent of the administration.

Meanwhile, 11,000 cases were reported in 50 days during the month of April in Mumbai but the third wave set more than 15,000 cases in merely 15 days. However, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials have assured that the situation is under control as the hospitalization stays at 1%.
