Stairway to Heaven hike in Wadi Ghalilah, Ras al Khaimah (RAK), UAE

Highly regarded as the UAE's most dangerous hike, The Stairway to Heaven climbs out of Wadi Ghalilah in the UAE's northernmost emirate Ras al Khaimah up a sheer cliff rising about 1200m. This hike should only be attempted in winter (when its not too hot). You should bring at least 3-4 liters of water per person. Doing the whole 22km circular route will take between 12-14 hours for average fitness. On the climb up, there is hardly a defined "trail." You must look for and follow the cairns (stacked stones). The route back down is a defined trail. I would not recommend doing this hike with someone who is afraid of heights. The danger of falling to your death is not that high, but people have done it. There's a higher danger of dehydration if not properly prepared.
