Sisol,parabuntal and Baku are ultra light, but also fragile,and hate rain!

Panama is the most elegant,it is light,varies from crunchy and brittle to soft and stretchy,it is handwoven.

Hemp is durable like crazy, flexible,wears well and take a little rain ok,takes dyes and colors well.

Toyo and shantung are straws made from wood/paper fiber, they vary from soft and floppy to hard as glass,the harder variety is very durable and gets flexible and it ages

Coconut straw is not that durable, but it’s inexpensive and looks great, lightweight..great, natural, dark color

Raffia has a natural, country look,it’s light and attractive,not too expensive and can be rollable too.

Palm, the heavier type,
(not the greenish type) is often from Mexico is super rain proof and heavy weight but lasts forever and can be shaped with water, it’s inexpensive and looks natural,organic.

There are so many straws..each with its own quality.. I’ll get into a few here

my name is Kevin, I’m working at NYC’s oldest hat shop(founded 1911) for 25 years,
..and this is HATS AND GUITARS ! I generally play guitar, talk about hats, then play more.

If u see a 🎸symbol first in the title of the video, there is a music intro,

If there’s no no guitar symbol, there’s no music on that video..
you can always fast forward though, some are good, others, just noodling..

But it keeps me interested and motivated,to be honest..25 years of the same hat speeches and lingo, it can get tedious.

The guitar keeps it fresher for me, and some music people might actually enjoy it, I think.
