Pulling a 4x5 negative shot on FP4+ and how it improved the final image.

On a tricky day for landscape photography I struggle to find inspiration whilst lugging my 4x5 alongside a lake. When I eventually find a composition at the end of the day I am faced with a tricky lighting problem, a bright sky with heavily shaded foreground. Given that I am shooting big sheets of film and need a good negative for a possible darkroom print I decide to overexpose and under develop one sheet, effectively pulling the film two stops.

This video looks at the making of the shot and subsequent difference between the normal exposure and the one taken at +2 stops. The important part here is the development of the overexposed negative, had I used a typical strength developer and time it would have been impossibly contrasty with a blown sky.
