Monarch Butterflies by the Millions: Masters of Migration!
Each year, monarch butterflies embark on a remarkable 3,000-mile journey to the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve in Mexico, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Drawn instinctively to their ancestral wintering grounds, they form enormous clusters so densely packed on pine and oyamel fir trees that the branches sag under their collective weight. This mass migration, vital for their survival, is still a natural mystery as scientists do not fully understand how the innate behavior of migrating to these winter habitats is passed between generations.
