Drawing With A Brushpen

Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!

In today's video, we are drawing bananas. That's not because bananas are the most interesting thing to draw. You already know by know that everything is interesting when you draw it.
My eyes fell on the bananas in our fruit bowl so I decided they would be a great subject for today's demo. People often ask me about how to use a brushpen. So in today's video, I'd like to show you. We'll draw these nice organic shapes, using the organic line that the brushpen can bring, by using a variety in pressure on it while drawing.
Every time you pick up a tool, you'll be sort of rediscovering it. With every subject you draw, it'll be different.
I like using the shape that the brushpen can give - if you use partly the side of the brush, you get a bit of a square shape - you could say that this is the language of the pen. Each tool has their own language, and if you start to understand it, you can use it to your benefit. The line of the brushpen is not delicate - it's quite bold, so don't expect to get into much detail. The brushpen is a fun and playful tool, and it might help you to draw a little bit faster and get more spontaneity in your drawings.

I'll also add watercolour for that bright yellow splash - and to play with a simple wet-in-wet technique that you might like.
