Bryte Devotions: It's all in the little things
Speaker: Greg Tovmassian
Passages: Luke 16:10, Colossians 3:23-24
Quote - It's always the simple that produces the marvelous. - Amelia Barr (British Novelist)
I recognize this quote could have many meanings or interpretations, but most are probably similar in many ways.
Some of my thoughts:
- a simple thought, if developed and brought into action, could produce something marvelous.
- a simple repetitive task or activity, could, over time, lead to something marvelous (i.e. building something one brick at a time, many small meetings to plan and execute a big event)
I don't know Amelia's thought process or context for this quote, but it certainly appears to be based on a biblical concept. Most of you might already be recognizing the verse that came to my mind after seeing this quote on a hospital wall a few weeks ago.
Luke 16:10
One who is faithful in very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in very little is also dishonest in much.
We can spend a lot of time discussing and deciding what it means to be faithful in little or in much, and we would still have a hard time coming to a consensus. One of the biggest reasons for that, is because it is different for each of us, given the fact that we all have different callings, gifts, talents, and are all in different stages of life.
However, the next passage that I would like to read, should give us a universal rule to follow, which will naturally help us be faithful in little and in much.
Colossians 3:23-24
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
Hopefully, at this point, it is clear to all of us that God asks us for one thing and one thing only, to be faithful in all that we do, regardless of how: simple or complex, important or (seemingly) unimportant, appealing or unappealing, our responsibilities are within all aspects of our life (work, school, ministry).
He WILL do the rest and will allow "the simple produce the marvelous"
May God give us all the ability, the strength, and the patience to do our part faithfully.
