Sustainable Tuna Fishery - Mitiaro

This is a short film showing how the fishermen of Mitiaro in the Cook Islands have maintained traditional fishing practices for tuna, and emphasising the uncertain future if commercial vesels, including large scale purse seine vessels using drifting FADs continue to contribute to overfishing, particularly for bigeye tuna. The way fish is shared among all the people shows the community spirit is alive and well.

As a Non-Government Organization, Te Ipukarea Society relies solely on Grant funding and donations in order to keep functioning. We recently started our own page on Givealittle, a crowd funding site based in New Zealand. This page will make it easier for our supporters, both overseas and locally to donate to TIS, with either credit card (international) or online payments (within NZ). Please find the link to this page below.
