When travelling overseas, it is now easy to withdraw cash from an ATM.

However, there is one legal but potentially expensive fee from many banks that could leave you paying far more than you should!

Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) is an option given by banks where you can choose to be charged in either local currency or your own currency.

Choosing local currency means you'd be charged at the daily global exchange rate for your card type, whether it be Visa, Mastercard etc.

Choosing to be charged in your own currency however means that THE BANK can choose its own exchange rate, which can be a mark-up of 10% or more!

This is why it is so important to always choose to be charged in local currency!

We'd read blog posts on this a while ago so knew to always choose local currency, but heard a friend had been caught by this, so decided we needed to get the message out there!
