Audio: A Demo and Overview of my Stereo System (Vinyl)
Check out massively updated system: http://youtu.be/SiWBcqV-br4
Sorry if you can't hear the audio or watch the video in your country. While the music distribution business gets its head out of its ass, there will be limitations on what can be included in videos such as this. Rather than see my use of Steely Dan's music as a great way to spread the word on a great band and recording, and possibly increase sales, they see it as an infringement. God knows people would rather listen to 50 seconds of Steely Dan's music, here, in compressed form, than to actually buy an album of it.
That said, here's what's what.
This video starts with a demonstration of my vinyl playback system. The album is Steely Dan's "Aja": a Mobile Fidelity "from master" pressing on regular-weight vinyl. It sounds superb. The turntable is a Pro-Ject Experience Classic. It is playing though a vintage Yamaha CA-1010 integrated amp, and PSB T-65 speakers. There is no subwoofer in my stereo playback system (there is a very large one in my home theater).
Note that the music you here in this video is **actual room sound** recorded with a Zoom H2 digital mic/recording system! No line-in sound capture BS here. I think demos should demonstrate the actual sound your ears would hear (well, as close as one can get, anyway). The Zoom was set up on the back of my listening couch, so it was capturing the sound from roughly where my head sits when listening to music. Unfortunately, the stereo image was not captured all that well with the Zoom (it might like to have been located closer to the speakers). Anyway, within the limitations of the Zoom recorder, this is as close as you will likely ever get to hearing my system in person.
After the demo, I go into some details about the equipment, and where I'm hoping to take the system next.
