Tape method: how long to leave it on & how to remove it

The tape method isnt anything fancy or new. KT tape stands for Kinesio Tape. Used by... yep you guessed it, #Kinesiologists— scientists who study Kinetics (movement) specifically in the body. I went to Univ of Maryland & have 2 undergrads & 1 Masters— 1 of my bachelors is in Neuromolecular Biomechanics from the School of Kinesiology. We have used KT tape on #athletes for years to manipulate the skin for a ton of reasons- reduce inflammation, relieve pain, ease joints into an easier #rangeofmotion, enhances recovery, allows for internal drainage [in sports specifically lactic acid] BUT in the surgery 🌎 we have a habit of repurposing stuff lol; KT tape allows for even skin compression, aids in retraction, & internal lymph drainage crucial for client healing once incisions close. BUT while it has amazeballs internal purposes, you cant ignore the skin. THE SKIN TAKES PRECEDENCE OVER EVERYTHING. After Sx you will have decreased oxygen to the skin, decreased circulation WITHIN the skin, increased moisture retention from sweating in the faja, increased internal pressure from swelling... by day 3 your skin absolutely hates you lol

HOW TO APPLY KT TAPE

KT tape needs positive tension in either direction.
•
👏🏽 Lower Tummy:
Tape ⬆️, BUT gravity is pulling down it serves as the “tension in the other direction”. String tape out ⬅️➡️, avoiding the underbreast area. It may help to put a lower anchor strip to help lift the tummy (see photos)

👏🏽 Back:
Apply tape ⬆️ the roll you would like to lift; it will probably wrap around the shoulder cap. Use gravity for opposing tension

👏🏽 Above belly button:
(Cut the tape in half) apply above belly button to lift the skin directly ⬆️ the navel area. Use gravity for opposing tension

👏🏽 Sides:
Apply tape on right side of navel, pull laterally & wrap around to the back. Bc you have to have even tension, apply tape in the same manner to the left side. This will separate the skin while compressing. Typically bc of the faja, when you compress it scrunches the skin in. Taping the opposing sides will prevent this from happening
