I don't share all of Orwell's views of nationalism (and especially his line between nationalism and patriotism) but I thought this was a well-written essay, a concise and exhaustive criticism of the opinions of nationalism in 1945. It was surprising how much could be reinterpreted for today's context. It's understandable how at that time one could hold these opinions, even if they don't translate fully.

My job was simply to arrange the essay into a brain4breakfast video, and that involved truncation quite a lot (ironic, considering what he says about context.) Read the whole essay here: http://www.orwell.ru/library/essays/nationalism/english/e_nat

For another interesting view, watch this video from George Friedman, The Necessity of Nationalism: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eovIYNFopgw
