KIRO 113 : FastFetch New Look on Kiro, Sync Dotfiles with kiro-skell and Protect Configs with Meld

FastFetch just got a fresh new look on Kiro, and in this tutorial I show you how to pull that update onto a system you have already installed - no reinstall needed.

We start with the new FastFetch output: a cleaner layout, the right glyphs and icons from a Nerd Font, and the ttf-hack font that makes everything line up. If you are missing those little icons, that is the Nerd Font doing the work - and the next ISO ships it by default, so it just works.

The real lesson here is kiro-skell. Every Kiro system keeps a master set of dotfiles in /etc/skel. The kiro-skell tool copies those fresh configs into your home folder, so a single command brings the new FastFetch config - and anything else we have improved - straight to you.

But what if you have customized your own configs and do not want them overwritten? That is where Meld comes in. I walk you through the workflow I use every day: keep your own version side by side, rename your copy as "mine", and compare it against the incoming default. Change something small like the Alacritty font size, save, and you can always see exactly what differs between your config and the new one. This is how I manage my own setups across Ohmychadwm, i3 and LeftWM - this one is really mine, I do not want it to change, so I make a copy and Meld it back.

I also give you a quick teaser of the FastFetch Tweak Tool I am building - presets, modules, logos, all clickable - and one important security reminder: when you share a FastFetch screenshot, hide your public IP. That address is the door into your home network, so keep it out of the picture.

Education first, no black boxes. Let's get your FastFetch looking great together.
