Andrews government’s secret deal with China was ‘institutionally wrong’

Victorian opposition leader Matthew Guy has slammed the Victorian government’s Belt and Road deal as “institutionally wrong”, as details emerge about a secret deal between Victoria and China.

Victoria had agreed to help China land major state projects and promote Chinese firms in a deal that has only recently been made publicly available.

Mr Guy said it would not matter “what country the company is from, it just seems to me to be institutionally wrong.”

“I think it’s something the broad-based anti-corruption commission should have a look at.

“You can’t go and offer market advantage to anyone.

“It shouldn’t work like that, not in a democracy like Australia.”
