DIY Henna Gloss Bars

Hey Maicurlies,

I super excited to share this DIY. Nope, they are not chocolates they are DIY Henna bars!!! :)

In this video I only demonstrate how I make the bars. The video would take forever if I recorded how I melt them down and apply them at the same time but if you would like to see that please leave me a comment below and I shall be happy to record that.

I do have a lot of information regarding the bars on my blog post: https://maicurls.wordpress.com/2015/05/04/diy-henna-bars/
Please do read the post for more information as well as a break down of how I melt down the bars.

Ingredients: You might need to tweak the ratios depending on your hair preference.
2.8 oz Unrefined Cocoa Butter
0.7 oz Coffee Infused Almond Oil (use any carrier oil)
4.2 oz Virgin Coconut Oil
0.2 oz Glycerine (optional - can be replaced with honey or agave nectar if you wish)
0.15 oz Vitamin E Oil
5.3 oz BAQ Henna
1.4 oz Hibiscus*
2.1 oz Amla*
*These powders can be replaced with other Auyverdic herbs such as Shikakai, Bhrami etc depending on the results you want to get. They are acidic which help with the dye release of the henna.

I make 16.2 oz = 6.5 bars and use 5 bars for a full strength henna application (12.4 oz). For henna glosses I use 0.5 - 1.5 bar (1.3 - 3.8 oz). Keep in mind that I have quite long hair that is fine, so you might need to use less/more depending on your hair length and density.

For a quick reference below are the 2 methods I use to melt the bars but like I said if you would like a recorded video let me know!

I will either use coconut cream or conditioner to double broil and melt the bars depending on what I have at home.

Coconut Cream: I use roughly 1/3 cup of coconut cream while double broiling 5 bars. I add a little more coconut cream if it is too thick and apply onto damp cleansed and detangled hair. I prefer my mix to be a little on the thicker side so it won't run down my neck during the night.

Conditioner: I use 1/3 to 1/2 cup of conditioner (depending on how thick the conditioner is) to double broil the bars. I add a little more if it is too thick and apply onto damp cleansed and detangled hair. I prefer my mix to be a little on the thicker side so it won't run down my neck.

I hope you enjoy the video!
