Klunker Bike-Dave’s Build

My KLUNKER build:
My buddy J Pappas. told me about a build party-so I blame him...
This bike started out as a Schwinn Worksman heavy duty, most likely a refinery bike from one of the Bay Area refineries. K Cabral. had the hookup. The frame and fork are from its previous life, everything else I replaced. Rear hub, wheels built, Alex-Hoops, new old stock GT Piston stem, Redline chain tensioners, 170mm crankset with BB adapter, Bendix red stripe hub, big thanks to Nick at Clayton Bikes for the wheel-lace assistance! I ground off the kickstand, fender mounts, welded in a coaster tab/slot (I hate that strap), stripped the whole bike down bare metal, primer and paint (cranberry). The tank and head-badge are from the pine tree we dropped at Gehringer Concord. Thanks to the Tuesday night crew for the inspiration!

Klunkin to me is like being a kid again. The bike ride home from school. Finding jumps and curbs and ledges and just having fun. On the hill its about getting down the mountain in one piece. Trails you know well become fun again. You have to pay a bit more attention to bumps and rocks and ruts and most importantly saving your brakes. Klunkin ain't easy!
