Shashi Tharoor to Lead Delegation to US; Why Did BJP Choose Him? Why Was He Not Picked By Congress?

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is set to lead India’s delegation to the United States under Operation Sindoor, the Modi government's diplomatic push following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

Tharoor, known for his strong international credentials, has publicly supported the government’s stance against Pakistan, especially during the recent India-Pakistan tensions.

However, his inclusion in the cross-party delegation has stirred political controversy. Congress had not proposed Tharoor’s name among its four suggestions to the Centre. Despite this, the government included him in the final seven-member team alongside BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticised the list, while BJP leaders called out Congress for its alleged hypocrisy.
