Tchaikovsky’s many moods—tender, grand, melancholic—are all given free rein in this lush adaptation of Alexander Pushkin’s seminal work of Russian literature. The vocal solos, notably Tatiana’s extended Letter Scene, are among the most striking in the repertory, and the score also features rich ensembles and some of the composer’s most masterful dance music.
