After an MI (heart attack or myocardial infarction), the damage to the heart muscle (myocardium) typically makes the heart weak & not able to contract forcefully. This weakened myocardium results in cardiac cells sort of glitching leading to dysrhythmias like V tach & V Fib, as well as less blood being pumped out of the left ventricle to the body, also known as less cardiac output, meaning less oxygen rich blood (perfusion) to the body. Heart failure sets in as blood is not adequately pumped forward, and being to back up in the lungs and/or body causing pulmonary edema, hypertension, crackles, peripheral edema, JVD, to name a few.
