'Peaceful' by Rock n Roll Angels (lyric version)

Track 9 on the 'Peaceful' album.
Written by Shaun McCrindle

Inspired by Simon Reade's stage production of 'Private Peaceful', a book by Michael Morpurgo.

On my back in a field
This doesn’t feel like any fun
I look up at the sky
As bullets fly from enemy guns

I wonder how long this war
Will drag on, how long?

I hold out hope of one day going home

Home is what we desire
Not this gunfire and stinking mud
I wish we could retire
From this dread choir and stench of blood

I would walk down that winding road
With the birdsong above me
The hawthorn rose making my heart burst with joy,
With joy

On my back in a field,
This can’t be real, this can’t be real, I feel
As I look up to the sky and blue birds fly
Then so do I, away from here

When this war is over
I won’t be sober
I’ll lie in the clover
Of my native field
Of my native field

On my back in a field
This doesn’t feel like any fun
I look up at the sky
As blue birds fly into the sun
