Chronicles of a Quaranteen:Self-Exploration in a time of Self-Isolation | Ryan Padala | TEDxDeerPark

Although the nation's stay-at-home order was met with frustration among many, including myself, I was able to find a great deal of benefit through this quarantine. I was able to experience a new type of self-discovery and exploratory learning that I had never been exposed to before. This curiosity-driven learning would never have been possible had I not been given the chance to slow down. It is up to each of us personally to continue to pursue this crucial self-directed learning throughout our entire lives. There is no limit to the amount that we can learn when we allow our curiosities to drive our learning. By slowing down and taking time to explore, we allow ourselves to become who we are meant to be. Ryan Padala is a member of the class of 2021 at Garden City High School on Long Island, where he is a varsity athlete and musician. Ryan has held multiple leadership positions, including president of his class. Ryan has contributed to his community over the past 7 years through his charity for the homeless, "The Linen Lift", and he has conducted research as an intern in the field of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at Northwell Health/Cohen Children’s Medical Center. Most recently, Ryan has presented his research on adolescents and their development at national medical conferences. Ryan has also developed his strong sense of the best way for adolescents to learn through his work as president of Peer Educators in his school, with his efforts to make presentations as effective as possible. Ryan also tutors children in various academic topics. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
