What I learned as one of two survivors of a plane crash | Zafar Masud | TEDxLahoreStudio

Zafar Masud is one of only two survivors of PIA Flight PK8303, which crashed in the suburbs of Karachi, Pakistan on 22 May 2020. It was the sixth Pakistani plane to crash in a decade. Here, he talks about 30 interminably long seconds before the crash, his miraculous survival and recovery, and the pressing need for improvement of domestic flight standards and safety. Zafar Masud is a seasoned banker and entrepreneur, focused on Development Finance, with over 27 years of proven track record of success and delivery.

He’s serving as President & CEO of The Bank of Punjab (BOP), since April 2020, which has a network of 636 branches with ~US$7Bn balance sheet and ~13000 staff. He has extensive experience of working at Board of Directors level for major public and private sector entities. He also contributed as member of IMF motivated Task Force on Framing SOE Law, set-up by the Ministry of Finance.

He is also a regular contributor to the local media on the topics of finance, economics and energy. His articles has been compiled in a book form called “Out of the Box”.

In May 2020, he had survived PK8303 airplane crash in Karachi. His colleagues dedicated a book to him called “The Miraculous Survivor”. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
