Restoring Appalachian Land and Water Lost to Mountaintop Mining
Appalachian Voices and SkyTruth use Google Earth and Earth Engine to view and monitor mountaintop removal mines in Appalachia, and track how the land at old mines is being restored. With good access to satellite imagery and data, they can show the impacts of mining over time and work to support policy changes that mitigate the impact of mining on the environment and public health.
